Description

In English

We must take care of them like our own brothers, not oppress them and do evil to them. All the people of the Middle East live in refugee areas and live in very poor conditions. On the other hand, refugees and asylum seekers cannot be forcibly repatriated when they face a real risk of persecution, torture or other serious harm in their country. There is the principle of non-refoulement in international refugee law. A principle that is part of customary international law and is binding on all states, regardless of whether they are parties to the 1951 Refugee Convention or its 1967 Protocol. Indonesia needs strong and comprehensive policies and mechanisms to protect asylum seekers and refugees, especially as many more are predicted to come in the future. Because of Indonesia's strategic position as an archipelagic country with very wide and open sea borders, which are in transit to Australia.
