                        Description(s)

This book, in addition to presenting the little known history of the Makassar Chinese community, is also the first study to compile Chinese history in Makassar globally from the 17th to the 20th centuries. The results show that the Chinese community in Makassar has left behind a wealth of historical traces that are widespread, ranging from collections of colonial archives, reports from European travelers, the Malay-Chinese press to historical relics from the Chinese themselves, both stored in houses of worship or records. their family tree. The Chinese community in Makassar stands out for their rich culture which is strongly influenced by local culture, while still maintaining their ancestral culture. But on the other hand, they are also able to build a strong network with important trading cities in the archipelago to Singapore. In summary, this book takes us to see the heterogeneous and complex history of the Chinese community in Makassar.
