                      Description(s)

Based on the London Convention of 1814 and the London Treaty of 1824, the Dutch East Indies government was required to carry out free trade as a condition for the return of the archipelago from British hands. However, the government continued the monopoly policy carried out by the VOC. Is it true that Makassar trade was gloomy under the supervision of the VOC and the Dutch East Indies? Why was the Dutch East Indies reluctant to carry out free trade, especially in Makassar? These are the two questions this book seeks to answer. With adequate data, the author not only gives us knowledge about Indonesia's maritime trade, but also presents an overview of the actions of the government which is always late in reading the times.
