Makassar has great potential to become a better city. However, poverty is still a major obstacle in achieving this goal. This condition not only affects the quality of life of the poor, but can also hinder the overall economic growth of the city. Many factors cause high poverty rates in Makassar, such as rapid population growth, limited employment opportunities, lack of access to education and health, and natural disasters. The Makassar city government has implemented programs to overcome poverty, but there are still many challenges to be faced in poverty alleviation. The challenges that still exist today are inaccurate poverty data, coordination between institutions, and changes in socio-economic conditions. From the programs that have been carried out by the government, there are successes and shortcomings. The success of several programs such as PKH, KIP, and KIS have succeeded in reducing poverty rates significantly and the shortcomings of inaccurate poverty data often cause programs to be off-target. For example, PKH has succeeded in increasing the school participation rate of children from poor families in Makassar. However, there are still challenges in ensuring that the assistance received is actually used to meet the needs of children, such as buying books or school supplies, there is also the development of MSMEs in Makassar has succeeded in increasing the income of several community groups, especially women. However, not all MSMEs that are developed can survive in the long term, and Clean Makassar has succeeded in improving the cleanliness of the city, but has not fully impacted the reduction of poverty rates. The solution could be in the form of increasing social assistance and food price stability, which are short-term solutions. The long-term solution is bureaucratic reform Improving the bureaucratic system to be more efficient and responsive to the needs of the community and sustainable economic development Encouraging inclusive and sustainable economic growth, Reducing dependence on limited natural resources. It can also carry out Government, Private, and Community Cooperation by Forming partnerships to manage resources effectively and efficiently or Partnerships with the Business World by Building partnerships with the business world to create new jobs. For example, one of the cities with a low poverty rate is in North Sulawesi, Manado, because Manado is the center of the economy and trade. and the tourism sector is also quite developed in several areas. From the many cases in the city of Makassar regarding poverty, it is hoped that the prospective regional head of Makassar city must improve the existing poverty alleviation program, so that the level of poverty in the city of Makassar is reduced and with good cooperation between the government, private sector, and the community, we are sure that Makassar can become a more prosperous and inclusive city.
