In the discipline of sociology, mental health must be understood as a complex social phenomenon that is closely related to the structure of society. Unlike approaches based on psychology that emphasize the individual aspect, the sociological perspective highlights how social, economic, and cultural conditions play a significant role in shaping the mental health of a community.

The process of modernization and urbanization has caused major changes in patterns of social interaction. The decline in connections within traditional communities, the increasing demands for productivity, and the widening of social inequality all add new pressures to mental health. In urban areas, the phenomenon of social isolation - where individuals are increasingly isolated from social support networks - is a risk that needs to be considered.

The social stigma attached to mental disorders remains a serious barrier in efforts to address mental health issues. Social concepts about what is considered "normal" and "abnormal" often make people with mental disorders hesitate to seek professional help. This condition is exacerbated by the lack of access to affordable and quality mental health services.

Social media also plays a crucial role in the dynamics of mental health today. On the one hand, digital platforms provide opportunities to share experiences and get support. On the other hand, the pressure to show a perfect life on social media can increase anxiety and depression, especially among the younger generation.

In the Indonesian context, cultural aspects and religious factors are things that cannot be ignored. Traditional assumptions about the causes of mental disorders often conflict with modern medical approaches, which creates its own challenges in the process of educating and treating mental health problems.

To address mental health issues, a comprehensive and community-based approach is needed. Strengthening social capital, increasing knowledge about mental health, and developing an inclusive social support system are strategic steps that need to be considered.

Mental health is not only an individual problem, but also reflects the social conditions of society as a whole. Understanding the socio-cultural context related to mental health issues is key to designing effective and sustainable interventions.
