Saat ini, masyarakat memiliki peran utama dalam menangkal hoax. Kenapa? Karena masyarakat merupakan tujuan akhir hoax di produksi. Apabila masyarakat memiliki pengetahuan dan daya kritis, hoax yang beredar tidak akan mampu menimbulkan berbagai polemik. “ Satu peluru hanya mampu membunuh satu orang, tetapi satu berita hoax mampu membunuh ribuan orang”. Itu fakta, kita dapat lihat sejarah bagaimana hoax dapat menyebabkan peperangan, genosida dan konflik yang menyebabkan perpecahan suatu bangsa.Perkembangan hoax saat ini mengalami perkembangan yang sangat cepat. Perkembangan ini, dipicu oleh perkembangan teknologi informasi.
Currently, society has a major role in preventing hoaxes. Why? Because society is the final destination for hoax production. If the public has knowledge and critical thinking, the hoaxes circulating will not be able to cause various polemics. "One bullet can only kill one person, but one hoax can kill thousands of people." That's a fact, we can see in history how hoaxes can cause wars, genocide and conflicts that cause the division of a nation.The development of hoaxes is currently experiencing very rapid development. This development was triggered by developments in information technology.
