lack of awareness in preserving regional languages

In my view, the trend among the younger generation today is quite concerning. The pride in using popular language, especially what is now called "Gen Alpha language," seems to be overshadowing the position of regional languages, which actually hold deeper cultural value. On one hand, I understand that young people want to express themselves and feel relevant to their surroundings, but on the other hand, there is a worry that pride in regional languages is gradually fading.

As a generation that should be the guardians of cultural heritage, we tend to neglect regional languages, even considering them outdated. In reality, regional languages are not just a means of communication; they are also a way to understand cultural roots, customs, and values passed down by our ancestors. If regional languages disappear, we lose an important connection to our history and identity.

I rarely see local leaders paying serious attention to the decline in regional language speakers. Perhaps this issue is seen as less urgent compared to economic or infrastructure development. However, I believe that cultural diversity, including language, should be a priority. When managed properly, local culture and language can become assets that support tourism development and strengthen regional identity both nationally and internationally.

To keep regional languages alive, collaboration among various parties is necessary, including the government, cultural communities, and the younger generation itself. Engaging and relevant socialization must be done, such as integrating regional languages into social media content or creative works that appeal to young people. Local leaders should also be bold in championing programs to preserve regional languages, not just as a formality, but as a long-term commitment.

In this way, regional languages will not merely become relics of the past but will continue to live and thrive alongside modernization.
