One Health Center, One Psychologist, One Million Recoveries Movement

Mental health is a hot topic in the era of digitalisation, an era where technology is developing so rapidly that it can change a lot of social order in society. In Dr Muhammad Faisal's book entitled Generation Back to the Roots, it is stated that the phenomenon of the current generation often prioritises itself on global trends, including lifestyle. Comparing oneself to other people's lives on social media causes low self-esteem, which can lead to mental health problems such as stress, depression and anxiety. A study mentioned that the rate of depression among young people (15-24 years old) is 6.2%. A person with severe depression has a tendency to self-harm and even commit suicide 80-90% of suicides are caused by depression and anxiety (Jauhari, M. K. P., & Arviani, H. (2023).
The government's awareness of mental health issues is still relatively low, which can be seen from policy priorities that have not optimally touched mental health aspects, such as the lack of budget allocations and limited access to mental health services in various regions. This lack of attention to mental health has a serious impact on the increasing suicide rate of young people in Indonesia. One of the main factors behind the high rate of depression that leads to suicide is the limited space for people to consult their problems. In the city of Makassar itself, accessibility to mental health services is still minimal, most recently in the city mayoral election not a single candidate put a focus on young mental health services in their vision and mission. Even though mental health issues can be a big problem when it cannot be handled seriously by the government, instead of creating a golden generation, it becomes a generation of anxiety.
A more reactive policy is needed from the government in strengthening the mental health service system, namely presenting a mentally healthy space by providing at least 1 psychologist in each health centre as a first step for the community to recognise their psychological problems. This concept can refer to the importance of a supportive environment so that individuals can feel comfortable to share their problems and can find solutions to problems experienced by professionals. Having a psychologist in every community health centre can provide great benefits to the community, especially the younger generation, by ensuring that mental health services are more widely accessible, not just limited to large hospitals. With this facility, early detection and quick intervention can be done to prevent mental disorders from getting worse. In addition, the presence of this space plays a role so that everyone has an equal opportunity to feel heard, understood, and ultimately healed from their psychological problems.
